*TRAINING IS CURRENTLY ON HOLD DUE TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS* Training Skills
Our courses vary from professional to hobbyist level. Our list of general interest courses is continuing to grow as more and more people are becoming interested in gaining traditional skills as a hobby, for their own home renovation or as a taster of something which may grow into a career. Participants undertaking our Accredited Training courses can gain NVQ3 qualifications or valuable CPD. We can also design and deliver tailored training depending on your needs.
General Interest Courses / Short Courses
Our courses currently include:
- Heritage Wood Occupations
- Understanding Repair & Maintenance of Pre 1919 Buildings
- Traditional Timber Framing
Over the coming months, we are looking to develop more half day and full day courses in a wide range of topics. Keep your eyes peeled for more information. If there is a particular course you’re interested, please contact us and we can let you know if something relevant is planned.
Our Repair and Maintenance of Traditional Pre-1919 Buildings course is at Level 3 and primarily orientated at CPD for Heritage Professionals.
All other accredited training is aimed at the achievement of a Level 3 NVQ in Heritage Skills. We have three pathways to this, depending on the existing level of experience of the candidate. For those who have little experience and / or some existing qualifications the lowest point of entry is the SAP or Special Applied-Skills Programme, which is a 20 day intensive course in 2 x 10 day blocks. We offer this in Stone and Wood. The next entry point is the Experience Worker Programme or EWP, which is an intensive 10 day course offered for Wood and Stone. The typical profile here is a few years’ site experience plus some relevant qualification. For those with lots of experience and qualifications there is the 5 day EWP Experienced, available in both Wood and Stone.
Additional to the course element is Assessment. Candidates – if they wish to achieve a NVQ 3 – are visited on site by an accredited Assessor several times and must complete a portfolio of evidence demonstrating that they have fulfilled the relevant criteria. When visited the candidate must be doing relevant work, which is why all of these programmes are aimed at people already in the trade who wish to improve their skills in heritage, or receive formal acknowledgment of their competence. We offer assessment for Wood, Stone and also Dry Stone Walling.
In brief, accredited training comprises:
(SAP, EWP and EWP experienced). Aimed at achievement of NVQ Level 3 and upon receipt of completion certificate candidates can apply for the CSCS Heritage Gold Card
We can offer tailored training for heritage building projects. We can quote and design courses based on your requirements and deliver them at a location convenient for you.
